Weslager. It is called "150 years on Old Public Road". The house was on that road until Old Public Road dead-ended at a developement and the rest of the road became Old Wilmington Rd. There was a room in the attic and the only way to access this "secret room" was thru the ceiling in a closet. The ceiling concealed a set of pull-down stairs! It was a cool thing until an ignorant tenant took a sledgehammer to a wall that concealed the room.🙁Dee Pettingillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17322382059011955126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945719747276028760.post-79535545035860108992023-01-19T09:15:00.346-05:002023-01-19T09:15:00.346-05:00Awesome! I wonder if William and Catherine would have even known much about French-controlled Missouri in 1726. And on another note, I can tell you that the house is still under the same caring ownership, and looking forward to the upcoming tricentennial in a few years.Scott Palmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10850758840846585533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945719747276028760.post-54210547692953537372023-01-18T15:17:27.579-05:002023-01-18T15:17:27.579-05:00Just wanted to let you know that Cox descendants a...Just wanted to let you know that Cox descendants are many in Missouri.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945719747276028760.post-29293408242821984972022-12-31T12:11:14.856-05:002022-12-31T12:11:14.856-05:00Valuable resource for my 6th GG!Valuable resource for my 6th GG!Brian Coxhttps://forebearsandkinfolks.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945719747276028760.post-35838528179503665442022-06-06T09:56:36.587-04:002022-06-06T09:56:36.587-04:00That's one of the possible explanations that h...That's one of the possible explanations that has been put out over the years, but I have serious doubts as to whether that's the right answer. It's almost impossible to do any research without coming across various connections between families, especially when dealing with the Quakers. I'd be very surprised if most of the residents (especially the land-owning ones) didn't know each other at any given time. Heck, they were likely to be related to at least a few of the other families.Scott Pnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945719747276028760.post-35443175165873194112012-04-05T18:05:35.363-04:002012-04-05T18:05:35.363-04:00Scott-After reading how the house descended from t...Scott-After reading how the house descended from the Cox family to Rebecca Dixon's husband John and then to William Phillips around 1766 (the ones who erected the large barn on the property). I also see that Mary Phillips is his wife. When I pulled out my 1744 Quaker marriage certificate from Hockessin Meeting for William Ferrall and Martha Cox (daughter of William and Catherine Kinkey Cox) I realized it must be the same Mary Philips who witnessed the Wm Ferrall/Martha Cox wedding along with John and Rebecah Dixon.
